Jim Host Resigns, Tandy Patrick takes over.

The announcement was made today that Jim Host was resigning as chairman of the 2010 World Games Foundation, Inc and that Tandy Patrick was named as his interim replacement. Ms. Patrick’s involvement in landing the games for Kentucky was significant and she would seem to be a fine choice in my opinion to go forward as board chairman for the Foundation, though there are many considerations that go into deciding that position. Business First of Louisville had a lengthy article on her and her involvement in the bid process for the Games back in January, 2006.

Congratulations Mayor-Elect Jim Newberry

Posted in Announcement, Government, Lexington, News Worthy at 10:31 am by Thomas

The 2006 elections are over as are the distractions over who we would be working with to make the 2010 Kentucky World Equestrian Games a success. We offer congratulations to Jim Newberry on his win in the Lexington Mayoral race and look forward to working with him.

Mayor Isaac has said she will provide Mayor-Elect Jim Newberry with total support during the transition period which is wonderful news, though we are not surprised by her attitude. Though the Governor’s race won’t be decided for another year and it could prove quite contentious the hope would be that Mayor Newberry would be able to set the direction for what was needed in the way of infrastructure that the outcome of the Governor’s race would not affect all the work that has to be completed in a short time afterwards.

Charter Formalized

For all, let it be known;

The members of this group believing in the responsibility of citizen’s of the Commonwealth of Kentucky to be active in the betterment of Kentucky, wishes it be known that our goal in supporting the Kentucky World Equestrian Games Organization(KWEGO) is our belief that the endeavors set forth here serve that purpose.
We believe that what is good for the horse community(horses) in Kentucky is good for Kentucky because horses have always been good for Kentucky.  Our first mission is to see that the FEI 2010 games are successful both in execution and presentation of the Commonwealth of Kentucky while utilizing tax payer monies in a way that benefits all citizens of the Commonwealth.  A key to the success of these games is to educate the citizens of the Commonwealth that these games benefit all Kentuckians not just horse owners and enthusiasts and not just those people local to the Kentucky Horse Park and Lexington.
Our second mission is to develop the Kentucky World Equestrian Games as an ongoing event occurring every 4 years starting in 2015 there by not coinciding with the FEI games or the Summer Olympic games.  The future Kentucky World Equestrian Games would continue to show case Kentucky for all the world to see and would continue to bring benefits to the citizen’s of Kentucky for many generations to come.
Our third mission would be to pursue a host bid for the Summer Olympic games with a desired target date of the 2032 or 2036 games.  The first two missions would go a long way to show Kentucky’s capability to host a Summer Olympics as well as to establish much of the infrastructure and logistics requirements to win a bid.
Kentucky’s proud heritage has always been  interconnected with that of the horse.  And going forward it should be expected that our collective well being as citizen’s of the Commonwealth of Kentucky be built on that great foundation that has been so wonderfully laid down by those who have come before us.

CAG

Posted in Announcement at 10:39 pm by Administrator

Currently we are investigating the formalization of a Citizen’s Action Group (CAG). The concern that has been raised is with the pledging of $33.4 million to build a new 6000 seat areana as well as a 300 room hotel at the Kentucky Horse Park in order to land the games. Much has been made of this number as a detailed accounting of how that number was arrived at has not been seen. Much of the worry also has to do with the fact that there is a Govenor’s election in 2007 and what happens if there is a change in administrations.

Most expectations at this moment are that this number will easily grow to $39 million just based on political under inflation. I still feel that for what is likely to be gained from such an opportunity is worth the cost and the fact that the cost is likely to be higher then what is now being reported is the norm for such projects and thus should not be seen as any kind of intentional oversite by our politicians. With that said, a CAG would provide a level of public oversite that would make the process much more transparent and would lend added public support to this undertaking.

Opening Remarks

Posted in Announcement at 11:06 pm by Administrator

The intent of this site is to provide a means to bring individuals together who want to be involved in the organization and promotion of the Kentucky World Equestrian Games to be hosted in Lexington, Kentucky sometime September – October 2010. The best guess at this time is that the date will be set to just proceed the start of the Keeneland Fall Meet, which would probably be October 8, 2010. So for our own organizational purposes at this early date we are counting down to Sunday September 26, 2010 with expected closing ceremonies then would be October 10, 2010. So the countdown stands at 1749 days until the opening ceremonies.
