[Caen, FRANCE] – Laurent Beauvais, chairman of the Basse-Normandie Regional Council and Normandy 2014 Organizing Committee, and Alltechpresident Dr. Pearse Lyons today announced that Alltech will be the title sponsor of the 2014 FEI World Equestrian Games™ in Normandy. This joint signing represents an historic partnership in the world of equestrian sports with a commitment from Alltech to the value of €10 million. The seventh edition of the FEI World Equestrian Games will officially be known as the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games Normandy 2014.
“Alltech is proud to continue our partnership with the World Equestrian Games,” said Alltech President and Founder Dr. Pearse Lyons. “These world championships of equestrian sport epitomize the values that we applaud: passion, excellence and performance. When the eyes of the world tune in to watch the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Normandy, France, we will be there. Alltech’s sponsorship of equestrian sport brings the brand to life and creates value for our partners, generating strong ties with the end consumer of our products at moments of great passion. France and Normandy in particular, with its worldwide reputation of excellence in horse breeding, is a strategic location for our company. Alltech has a longstanding history of serving the agricultural community in France, and we are thrilled to support the event in Normandy and to share in the pride of this spectacular event. Given the inherent passion the people of Normandy have for the horse, we hope to leverage this sponsorship to support the communities in which we live and work.”
Alltech’s commitment to supporting national and international equestrian sports began in 2006, when it agreed to become the first-ever title sponsor of the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games. More than half a million spectators from all 50 U.S. states and 63 countries attended the 2010 event in Kentucky, and another 500 million television viewers around the world tuned in. This year also marks the 20th anniversary of Alltech France, where Alltech has offices in both Paris and Nantes. The company has a strong corporate presence throughout Europe, where 36 of its offices are located. Vice-President for Alltech Europe, Mr. Marc Larousse oversees the European region from the Paris office.
Countdown to the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games Normandy 2014 officially begins on July 8, 2011. This day marks 1136 days out to the opening day of the event on August 17, 2014. More than 900 riders and 850 horses representing more than 60 nations are expected to convene in Normandy.

Proposed new dressage rules, which may have enabled Adelinde Cornelissen to claim a medal at the World Equestrian Games (WEG) last year, have been commended by leading figures.
The rules detailing what to do if blood is seen on a horse during a dressage test at international level were decided at the FEI Dressage Committee meeting in Paris on 7-8 June.
FEI five-star international judge Andrew Gardner said the proposals are “totally positive”.
“The new guidelines would mean that the responsibility is shared between the judges and the vets,” he said.
“If a vet deems it acceptable for a horse to continue, it’s good not just for the combination but also for dressage’s public perception, as people would know the horse had the green light from the vet.”
Discrepancies on this issue between dressage and other FEI disciplines were highlighted by Horse & Hound and continental magazine Horse International earlier this year (news, 24 February).
Despite not having a rule specifically mentioning blood, dressage riders were being disqualified without investigation into the nature of the injury.
In other disciplines, officials were able to allow horses with “minor cases” to continue.
Based on this interpretation of the dressage rules, Dutch rider Adelinde Cornelissen and Jerich Parzival were immediately eliminated at WEG when blood was spotted in the horse’s mouth, scuppering her hopes of an individual medal (news, 7 October 2010).
The new rule, which will be debated at the FEI General Assembly in November, states a test should be stopped if blood appears anywhere on the horse.
But horses competing in the Olympics, World Equestrian Games and World Cup Finals would then be examined by an FEI vet and allowed to resume the test if the bleeding has stopped.
At lower level events, or where there is no FEI vet present to examine the horse, any bleeding would result in immediate elimination.
If passed at the general assembly, the new rules will be implemented on 1 January 2012.

Report: Visitors to event came from 63 countries, all 50 states
LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 27, 2011) – The Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games held in 2010 at the Kentucky Horse Park had an economic impact of $201.5 million, Governor Steve Beshear announced today.
“The World Equestrian Games were indeed a success and this report illustrates the positive result that our local and state governments, our sponsors, the many volunteers, the business community and the citizens of the Commonwealth working together can have.” Gov. Beshear said. “It also underscores the important role of the Kentucky Horse Park and the legacy the games will have for future years.”
Gov. Beshear, First Lady Jane Beshear, Alltech founder Dr. Pearse Lyons, Tourism, Arts and Heritage Secretary Marcheta Sparrow and Kentucky Horse Park Executive Director John Nicholson participated in the announcement today at the Kentucky Horse Park.
“The World Equestrian Games was a unique opportunity to reaffirm our standing as Horse Capital of the World, as well as promote tourism and business in Kentucky,” said Mrs. Beshear. “To witness the event first-hand, from its inception to the closing ceremony of the final day, I am thrilled with its success and want to thank everyone who took part in creating and executing such a tremendous, historic event for our state.”
The Alltech World Equestrian Games were held Sept. 25 through Oct. 10, 2010, the first time the international event had been held outside of Europe. The games are composed of eight events – dressage, driving, endurance, eventing, jumping, para dressage, reining and vaulting.
According to the report commissioned by the Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet, the Alltech World Equestrian Games Foundation reported that it sold or provided complimentary tickets to 419,853 visitors. They came from 63 countries and all 50 states.
The economic impact took into account “direct” spending that accounted for $128.2 million. This includes guest spending at the Horse Park, lodging, restaurants, shopping centers and retail outlets.
It also considered “indirect” spending – $73.3 million – such as money spent for food and lodging suppliers, construction and other services that were needed to support the influx of guests.
The report found that $55.4 million was spent on tickets, food, souvenirs and other items at the event while $39.6 million was spent on lodging. The games also generated nearly $18.4 million in state taxes and nearly $4.6 million in local taxes, the report said.
“While these financial impact numbers are quite impressive and stronger than even anticipated, the impact extends far beyond the monetary evaluation,” said Dr. Lyons. “For years to come, our community will reap the benefits of the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, from a new sense of community pride to statewide improvements and infrastructures that continue to drive tourism today.”
The study was conducted for the cabinet by Certec Inc. of Versailles. Information for the study was supplied by the World Games 2010 Foundation Inc., the Kentucky Horse Park, and the Kentucky Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet. An online version of the report is available at http://www.kentuckytourism.com/industry/research.aspx.
“The investment Gov. Beshear and the legislature made here at the Horse Park has already made this facility the best in the nation for equine-related events and organizations,” Lexington Mayor Jim Gray said. “The visibility the Games brought to our city and the investments the state made in Lexington to help our city host the Games – road improvements, a much improved gateway into our city and a new runway at the airport – have elevated Lexington’s brand as the Horse Capital of the World. The legacy and the economic impact of the Games have been remarkable.”
The Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games had a direct impact on passenger travel at Lexington’s Blue Grass Airport. In October 2010, passenger enplanements increased by 39 percent from the previous year, according to the airport’s 2010 annual report.
The airport and its partners hosted more than 700 private and corporate airplanes, provided security for international dignitaries, welcomed more than 460 international athletes and facilitated 18 special event charter flights, said Eric Frankl, executive director at Blue Grass Airport
“It was a privilege for the airport to serve as the gateway to central Kentucky for World Equestrian Games visitors,” he said. “The airport experienced one of its busiest months in airport history as a result of the collaborative effort put forth by our airlines, airport partners and staff to successfully handle an event of this magnitude.”

Olympic Day - June 23, 2011
Thank you for your interest in 2011 Olympic Day!
Olympic Day, held annually on June 23, is celebrated by thousands of people in more than 160 countries. Commemorating the birth of the modern Olympic Games, Olympic Day is not only a celebration, but an international effort to promote fitness and well-being in addition to Olympic ideals of Fair Play, Perseverance, Respect and Sportsmanship.
From June 17-26, 2011, communities across the United States will celebrate Olympic Day through educational programming and other activities.
To accomplish this, the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) has designed a tool kit and a turnkey program that will assist communities across the nation in celebrating Olympic Day. The USOC will work with the nearly 10,000 Olympians and Paralympians currently living in the United States, endeavoring to have an athlete present at each Olympic Day celebration to share their experiences and the role Olympic ideals have played in their lives. If the USOC can accommodate your event, they will assign an account manager to work directly with you to provide assistance in preparing for your event.
Registration for hosting a 2011 Olympic Day event is now closed.

As happens more times then not this time of the year in Kentucky, the weather went from bad to great in a matter of a days. The weather for the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event: Cross Country Day started out a little chilly but soon warmed up and it turned into a gorgeous day. Many people have sun-burns to prove it, which if I can give one bit of advice, wear Sun Screen.
Way to take the Lake.
The jump at the Head of the Lake is always a crowd favorite and this year was no exception. We watched a number of horses through this jump and other then a few minor mis-steps they all completed it with authority.
There were a few horses retired or eliminated over the length of the course but no major career ending injuries to any horse or rider and so that makes it a good Cross Country Day when everybody can come back another day.
At the end of the day, Mary King on KINGS TEMPTRESS with a clean round and no time faults was in first going into tomorrow’s Show Jumping finale.икони

April is the kickoff of so many things horsey in Kentucky and some not so horsey that for me its the best month of the year. The month starts out with the Kentucky Wildcats on the verge of winning a Championship, I know not a horse related event but certainly a Kentucky event.
Keeneland’s Spring Meet starts the 8th and runs through the 29th with the last major Prep Races for the both the Kentucky Derby and the Kentucky Oaks. Keeneland is certainly one of the most beautiful Thoroughbred Race Tracks in the country and with the Kentucky Red Buds and Dog Woods in full bloom it maybe nearly Angelic.
The Kentucky Horse Park starts the month with the Kentucky Spring Arabian Show, then mid-month the Kentucky Spring Premiere kicks off the Saddlebred show season…(DRUM ROLL PLEASE) To finish the month, The Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event, the only Four-Star Three-Day on North American Soil, with all that excitement I am not sure how I will survive the month.

Clean up day is March 19th 9am to 4pm
The 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games were fantastic and we loved
every minute of it. But once all the visitors, competitors, horses,
tents, temporary seating departed, we were left with quite a bit of
detritus!
They were very good and cleared up as much as they could but there is
still a lot to be done to get ready for the 2011 season.
And that is were you come in!
The Cross Country Course still has a great deal of ‘stuff” to pickup.
Volunteers are needed to pick up garbage on the course.
A whole army of volunteers will be needed, so if you or a group of
friends wish to help. We would love to see you.
Free day passes to the Park will be given out to all who help!

Happy New Year Everyone ,
So 2010 has passed and we start again in a new year, how time flies. Its been a little more then 3 months since the start of the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, and about 2 1/2 since they ended. Of course I am feeling a little sentimental about the Games, for the last 5 years it has been a major part of my life so there is a bit of a let down afterwards. I have taken a bit of a vacation the last 2 1/2 months to catch up on some things I had put on hold for the Games.
As 2010 came to a close I had some regrets, some even directly related to the Games themselves, but the positives that came out of the Games far outweigh those regrets. Now that a new year is upon us, and I have found a new balance in my life, I will be investigating what the landscape is for Kentucky to pursue the 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games. The interest was certainly there at the Closing Ceremonies, but enthusiasm in such a moment doesn’t always stand the test of time and something as complex as submitting a bid in probably 18 months with a Governor’s election looming might be more then I can hope for.
I am going to make one resolution specific to my efforts, they will continue and this Blog which is now more then 5 years old will continue for many years to come whether the Games return in 7 years or in 15 years.
Live Long and Prosper

Tomorrow will mark the 5 year anniversary of the official announcement that Lexington had won the 2010 FEI World Equestrian Games. I can still remember hearing the announcement and being honestly surprised, even those involved in the submitting the bid for Lexington had downplayed our chances because there were a lot of people who felt the FEI would not take the Games out of Europe. Of course they did decide to take a chance on us and ultimately I think most people are happy they did. There were many who thought we would fail to deliver and they were proven wrong, though we did make our fair share of rookie mistakes but there was more then a few people who were not going to let these Games fail.
Certainly one individual who shall once more receive a thank you from me for believing in the Games is Dr. Pearse Lyons of Alltech. The second person isn’t a single person but about 7000, all the Volunteers who gave of their time to see these Games be a success, I know I had a Great Experience as a volunteer and I hope everyone else did as well. I would also like to send my thanks out to the many people behind the scenes who in one way or another helped to make these Games a success.
So if any of you meet me in person, please let me know that you were involved in the Games, I would love to shake your hand and say thank you in person.
Sincerely,
Kentucky Colonel
